This role spans cloud infrastructure and back-end platform development, with an emphasis on system-level design and long-term technical direction.
You’ll design and build systems that:
Provide authentication, data storage, and analytics capabilities to our services and applications around self care and for community health workers.
Connect our world-class computer vision, language model and predictive analytics tech to partner organizations via open APIs.
Integrate real-time data from the field with public health systems across the world.
Transform raw data into actionable insights for governments, global health NGOs, and program funders.
Our systems are hosted in AWS, designed to scale elastically, and adhere to the highest standards of security and privacy. You’ll partner closely with other engineers, data scientists, product managers, designers, and customers to create solutions that impact real people.
Responsibilities include (and are not limited to):
Implement service endpoints, business logic, and data storage and processing tasks, primarily in Python.
Configure, deploy, scale, and maintain AWS cloud infrastructure, including usage of Lambda, DynamoDB, S3, RDS, EC2, and ECS via Terraform.
Platform engineering responsibilities: monitoring of live products, developer tools, access management, coordinating on releases, CI/CD.
Support transition from research to productization when required.
Proactively suggest and drive new initiatives and technical directions for yourself and the team, including influencing architecture, standards, and best practices across the engineering organization.
Inspire technical excellence in the team by your own example, through code and design review, and by mentoring others.
Analyze and communicate details of system design, performance, trade-offs, and risks to other Engineers and the Product Management team.
Deeply understand and demonstrate empathy for users of Audere products.
Champion product quality, excellence in execution, privacy, security and regulatory compliance.
Continuously assess opportunities for improvement by analyzing product performance in production, competitive offerings, user needs, and technological trends, with particular attention to reliability, observability and operational excellence.
Minimum Qualifications
BA/BS degree in Computer Science or related technical field or equivalent practical experience. Lack of a degree is fine if you have significant software engineering experience.
Significant (typically 10+ years) of software engineering experience with demonstrated impact at a senior or principal level.
Demonstrated experience building, deploying, scaling, and supporting distributed, data-intensive services for mission-critical applications.
Experience with AWS or other cloud providers preferred.
Proactive self-starter with the ability to operate in an ambiguous environment.
Experience and proven success working with a global (distributed) team with diverse ideas, backgrounds, and perspectives.
Willingness to learn and a desire to grow in a mission-driven start-up organization.
Experience with developing healthcare services, medical devices, point-of-care diagnostics, medical imaging products, generative AI, or MLOps, in a customer-focused organization is a plus.
